Secondary Metabolism: the Building Blocks and Construction Mechanisms

ثبت نشده
چکیده

Distinctions between primary and secondary are defined, and the basic building blocks used in the biosynthesis of secondary natural products are introduced. The chemistry underlying how these building blocks are assembled in nature is described, subdivided according to chemical mechanism, including alkylation reactions, Wagner–Meerwein rearrangements, aldol and Claisen reactions, Schiff base formation and Mannich reactions, transaminations, decarboxylations, oxidation and reduction reactions, phenolic oxidative coupling, and glycosylations.

I-Blocks in an African Context

The paper describes some initial experiences in involving users from Tanzania in the development of I-BLOCKS technology for the African cultural context. Users of the intelligent building blocks (I-BLOCKS) can do ‘programming by building’ and thereby construct functionality of artefacts in an intuitive manner without the need to learn and use traditional programming languages. We allow both sec...

Metabolism Part I: Glycolysis for the Embden-Meyerhoff pathway

Metabolism (from the Greek metabolas, changeable) has been described as the sum total of the chemical reactions carried out by biological systems. I t includes processes by which cells: 1) capture energy from their surroundines. 2 ) convert nutrients-into the building blocks for synthesis of macromolecules such as polysaccharides, proteins, and nucleic acids, 3) synthesize the macromolecules ne...

Structural and Functional Analysis of an Industrial, Flexible, and Demountable Wall Panel System (RESEARCH NOTE)

Building waste is a critical issue in current construction. Innovative design strategies are required to reduce the depletion of valuable materials and resources through providing flexible and versatile structures. This study focuses on the development of an industrial, flexible, and demountable wall panel construction system. The panel system consists of concrete blocks with steel connectors t...

Seed priming with Electromagnetic Field Improved Growth, Nutrition, And Metabolism of Salvia nemorosa L.

In this study, the efficiencies of seed priming with electromagnetic field (0, 2, 4, and 6 mT; 30 minutes daily for 3 days) were investigated in Salvia nemorosa. The exposure to electromagnetic filed led to significant increases in biomass accumulation (mean=53.6 %). Electromagnetic filed treatments significantly increased K, Ca, Mg, and Fe contents in leaves by mean 39.5 %. The electromagnetic...

Construction Waste Generation in the Iranian Building Industry

Building industry as one of the greatest industries in Iran comprises a significant share of waste generation in the country. Since a large quantity of the generated construction waste is buried due to the lack of a recycling protocol, it leads to an undesired waste of resources and causes severe environmental issues. This paper provides a study on the problem of material loss/construction wast...
